American rapper Vince Staples, born in Long Beach, California, on July 2, 1993, rose to prominence as a member of the group Cutthroat Boyz and through his collaborations with artists associated with the Odd Future collective, particularly Earl Sweatshirt. After releasing several notable mixtapes, he made his major-label debut in 2014 with the EP Hell Can Wait.
Critically acclaimed, Summertime '06, his debut album, was released in June 2015 and was named one of the best albums of the year by several music publications. His second album, Big Fish Theory (2017), expanded his sound by incorporating electronic music influences and featured guest appearances by Bon Iver, Damon Albarn, Kendrick Lamar, Flume, A$AP Rocky, and Ty Dolla $ign.
In 2018, the rapper released FM!, his third studio album. Three years later, he released the acclaimed Vince Staples (2021), followed by Ramona Park Broke My Heart (2022), Dark Times (2024), and Cry Baby (2026). On the latter, Staples incorporated rock and post-punk influences to reinforce his critiques of violence, structural racism, and the contradictions of American society, while also marking the beginning of his partnership with the record label Loma Vista.
