Formed in 2010 in London by sisters Hannah and Colette Thurlow, 2:54 was influenced by the stoner rock of bands like Melvins and Queens of the Stone Age, but their music carries the atmosphere of shoegaze, which, in this case, is closer to the sound of Lush. Their early works also show similarities to The xx and Warpaint.
In 2011, 2:54 released the EP Scarlet. The following year, in May, their self-titled debut album was released. In 2014, the sisters released the album The Other I through the British label Bella Union.
