Unknown Mortal Orchestra is a band from New Zealand, based in the United States, in Portland, Oregon. The group was formed by vocalist/guitarist Ruban Nielson. He was previously a member of the New Zealand power pop/noise rock band The Mint Chicks, which remained active between 2001 and 2010, and released three albums.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra released the albums Unknown Mortal Orchestra (2011), II (2013) and Multi-Love (2014). His works incorporate elements from genres such as psychedelic pop, R&B, garage rock and Lo-fi.
In 2018, the band released Sex & Food and the instrumental IC-01 Hanoi. A new work titled V arrived in 2023. A new instrumental album, IC-02 Bogotá, was released in 2025.
