The California-based duo She Wants Revenge was formed in Los Angeles in the early 2000s by musicians and DJs Justin Warfield and Adam “Adam 12” Bravin. With a sound that blends post-punk, gothic rock, and electronic music, the group released its self-titled debut album in 2006 on Geffen Records. Driven by hits such as “Tear You Apart,” “These Things,” and “Out of Control,” the album drew immediate comparisons to acts like Joy Division, Interpol, Depeche Mode and The Cure.
Their second studio album, This Is Forever, was released in 2007, followed by the EPs Save Your Soul (2008) and Up and Down (2009). In 2011, the duo released their third album, Valleyheart, independently. The following year, after extensive touring, the project announced an indefinite hiatus.
In 2015, the inclusion of “Tear You Apart” on the soundtrack for the series American Horror Story: Hotel reignited interest in the duo, leading to a reunion tour in 2016 to celebrate the tenth anniversary of their debut album.
