Ringo Deathstarr is an American shoegaze and noise pop band based in Austin, Texas. Their sound combines distorted guitars, pop melodies, and ethereal vocals, with notable influences from groups such as My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus and Mary Chain.
The project was founded in 2005 by vocalist and guitarist Elliott Frazier in Beaumont, before he moved to Austin. In the early years, the lineup included guitarist Renan McFarland, bassist and vocalist Alex Gehring, and drummer Dustin Gaudet. The self-titled debut EP was released in 2007 on the British label SVC Records. After several lineup changes, the group settled into a trio consisting of Frazier, Gehring, and drummer Daniel Coborn.
Their first studio album, Colour Trip, was released in February 2011 by the British label Club AC30, with distribution by Sonic Unyon in North America. The album featured the blend of noise and melodies that would become the band’s trademark. In September 2012, the trio released Mauve.
This was followed by God’s Dream — initially released in 2013 and made available in other markets in 2014 — and Pure Mood, from 2015. In March 2020, the band returned with the album Ringo Deathstarr, which expanded their musical palette by incorporating psychedelia, dream pop, and post-punk, while still retaining the dense layers of guitar and the alternating vocals of Frazier and Gehring.
